Last week, we featured a company that offers stationary made from wood called Cards of Wood. Another jaw-dropping exhibition that we had the opportunity to see at the The International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair was a SawStop table. In short, this sawing table prevents injuries with a mechanism that detects skin. Pretty cool!
So how does it work?
The blade carries a small electrical signal, which the system continually monitors. When skin contacts the blade, the signal changes because the human body is conductive. The change to the signal activates the safety system.
What does the safety system do?
The blade stops within milliseconds of detecting contact, quicker than a car airbag deploys. A brake springs into the blade, which drives the blade beneath the table, and the motor is shut off.
Here’s an example of how it works:
We love seeing companies that make safety a priority. What would we do without our fingers? Products like the SawStop make it possible to take extra precautions and ease the mind. We like that.
