Heath Refinishing offers a wide array of furniture services including refinishing, repairing, custom furniture building, or even if you would like us to just take ten years off your furniture with a professional touch up. We believe in restoring the true value of a quality product, instead of simply replacing it.
How We Work
At Heath Refinishing we strive to maintain an unparalleled quality of craftsmanship for an affordable price. We view the concept of maintaining and rebuilding the beauty of your furniture as an art and treat every piece as if it were our own, which is why we can guarantee our customers a quality finished product.
In order to perform a quality job, we carefully analyze each piece of furniture to decide the best possible method for restoring its natural beauty. Most refinishing service providers simply add to the old finish on your furniture’s surface trying to cover up damages on your furniture. Instead of trying to camouflage the damage, Heath Refinishing will repair the wood itself by removing any old or damaged finish and restoring the natural beauty of the wood.
Our Process
Wonder how Heath Refinishing takes your old antique piece and makes it new? Many do-it-yourself furniture owners are unaware of some vital steps in the refinishing process, which can leave unwanted results. Removing old finish can be a near impossible task without the proper equipment and knowledge. Learn more about process below:
Stripping
Our cutting edge system involves several steps.
- Hardware is removed and cleaned.
- Items are partially disassembled for proper stripping, to include removing backs, doors, etc.
- All surfaces are chemically stripped of the existing finish and stain using the flow-over system that does not damage wood, veneer, or glue.
- All surfaces are power water rinsed to remove finish and stripper residue and to neutralize the chemicals.
- Item is allowed to air dry for two days.
Fixing
The next step is to repair any minor and major repairs.
Sanding
Once the difficult task of removing the old finish is achieved, the sanding process can begin. At Heath Refinishing we view sanding as one of the most important steps in refinishing furniture. We do most of our sanding by hand to prevent the swirl marks and irregular sanding patterns that electric sanders leave behind.
Staining
In addition to using professional stripping and spray equipment, at Heath Refinishing we always use the highest quality equipment and materials. We only use top of the line dye stains, which penetrate the wood’s surface and bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Dye stains do not fade or break down over time like other stains, giving a lifetime of beauty to your furniture. Applying this type of stain is an art that takes many years of practice which is why very few, if any, companies will use this type of stain.
Finishing
Lastly, finishes that are applied in a garage or outdoors can be rough and uneven. At Heath Refinishing, all of our finishes are sprayed in a commercial spray booth to prevent dust or other containments from getting into the finish. We guarantee a perfectly smooth and flawless finish every time.
We also use the highest quality sealer and lacquer on your furniture. Furniture manufactures and most refinishing companies use nitrocellulose type lacquers, the most common type of lacquer which is susceptible to water rings or fading of color. At Heath Refinishing we only use the very best catalyzed lacquer. This type of lacquer will never fade, is extremely scratch resistant, non toxic, and water resistant, so you never have to worry about searching for a coaster!
