This little do-it-yourself project caught our eye for two main reasons. 1) The effect of seeing a “floating bookshelf” is pretty unique. 2) Very little materials involved and fairly easy to do! Of course, if you have tons of books, a regular bookshelf would be a better choice. But, if you have a few favorite novels or simply want to give your room a bit of creative flair – this project is perfect!
The awesome folks over at Instructables put together a step-by-step guide so you can view pictures of the entire process. Here’s the link to the full walk-through. If you are trying to decide if you want to invest in materials, below we’ve listed everything you need!
– Good sized “L” Bracket
– Carpet Knife
– Small wood screws (of the flat headed variety)
– Large wood screws
– Tape Measure or Ruler
– A Stack of Books for Weight
Other than that, just keep in mind that you will need to be comfortable using a carpet knife. For the most part, everything is pretty straightforward.
